Looking forward to it, Laiden. Though, ask anybody...I'm stumped pretty often. That's part of the fun.

This one should be easy:

"Roughly one-hundred-and-fifty of your years ago, the Centauri came to our world. Narn was a green and fertile place then."

My favorite comedic line in the whole series. 3rd Season, Delenn to Sheridan in "And the Rock Cried out No Hiding Place. Delenn says this after Sheridan says he has been having the kind of dreams that would make your hair stand on end.

How about "I'm telling you I can't take much more of this." Shouldn't be too difficult. :)

Laiden
06-24-2005, 01:13 PM
Maybe we need to start a new thread that says "I'm thinking of a character between season 1, season 5 and beyond who said this . . ." We are starting to become so general in our quotes, I could find the same line said by two or more characters and from two or more different episodes  I propose to try and find more memorable lines, but said from more than one person . . . just enough to stump a guess or two. For example:

"We walk in the dark places no others will enter. We stand on the bridge and no one may pass. We live for the One, we die for the One."

this isnt hard ;)

There was a quote that I believe had become a quote used by several. In college, one of my friends would say "See you on the flip-side" instead of "Good-bye" or "see you later". I also began using it as well. It wasn't until I saw the Earth Civil War in the later part of Season 4, that I realized that it was from B5.

So in a roundabout way, a line from B5 was used by me even though I was unaware of the source, and no one told me where it came from. I still it's kinda neat.

Sheridan was talking to Delenn. She'd just told him she needed to return to Minbar to rebuild the Grey Council which would allow Sheridan to be 'dangerous' without her around. As they go off to dinner she asks if he's heard from Marcus and Stephen.

While I don't know who first said it, I first heard Art Bel say it on Coast to Coast Am (http://www.coasttocoastam.com/art/about.html), but he said up front that he wasn't sure where it came from either. Night Marshall; O.k. thanks.

I asked because it is something that comes close to something the great Mayor Amalfi said(in other words) in 'Cities in flight' by the late great James Blish.

A small group of people can survive Ginnungagap(sp?) a.k.a. the end of this cycle of the universe, but just for a few seconds. In those few seconds they can influence the next cycle. All of them plan very carefully so that the conditions of the new universe are created along the same lines as the one we now live in. All except for Amalfi, because he decides for himself that 'he has already used this universe until the screws fell out'. It is one of the best endings I have ever read in my life. It is an example of the 'Sense of Wonder' that so many sf-writers had in the 50-ies. And those who have read Blish and liked him, know that every now and then the man could really move you, which was rather special in SF in those days... For me he was the american Eric Frank Russell.

Ah, Russell, Blish, Van Vogt... Heroes, all of them... *sigh*

Anyway : I always used it in my personal philosophy: What good is it to die completely healthy? Isn't that a waste of material? The screws should fall out, but they should fall out at the right time. And there lies our challenge.

But enough of this philosophical chit-chat.

Of all the good lines in Babylon 5 .. Here's one I "crenged" on when I first heard it. May not be exact, but essentially:

"Do you know what it's like to make love to a telepath?"

Jan
10-21-2005, 05:45 AM
Talia to Sinclair in Mind War.

Do you know what it's like when telepaths make love, Commander? You drop every defense, and it's all mirrors, reflecting each other's feelings, deeper and deeper, until somewhere along the line, your souls mix, and you touch something so profound that it makes you hurt. It's the only moment in a telepath's life when you no longer hear the voices.

I dunno, I think it's pretty. (No, I had to look it up, I didn't have it memorized!) ;)

You're just too good!

This isn't a line .. but maybe yall can help me with it.

When Talia Winters and Ivanova "shared quarters" that time. I swear on the original telecast that either they kissed, or they were about to kiss and the episode cut away to another scene.

And after I finally recorded the episodes when they were on TNT, I've never been able to find that scene again. Was I just imagining that? or was it something that was later cut out?

Jan
10-21-2005, 06:20 AM
When Talia Winters and Ivanova "shared quarters" that time. I swear on the original telecast that either they kissed, or they were about to kiss and the episode cut away to another scene.

No, they never kissed onscreen, though it was clear that they shared the bed.

Let's see...There's this, when Talia arrives at Susan's quarters. They're having tea and Ivanova asks Talia about Lyta:

IVANOVA
...Damn it, Talia sometimes I just don't know who to trust anymore.

Talia approaches her, a sad smile on her face.

TALIA
Funny. I've felt the same way lately. So I've come to the decision that there's only one person on this entire station I can trust implicitly. You.

Ivanova truns to her, and her face softens, touched by the admission.

The scene after that is when Talia wakes up and reaches out, noticing that Susan's gone.

Later, when Talia goes to pick up her things, they're talking, Susan has her back to Talia:

IVANOVA
...how can you ever look them in the eyes again?

Talia goes to her, stopping inches from her, behind her.

TALIA
I wish I had an answer, Susan, but I don't. All I know is that you're surrounded by people who care about you. There's nothing you can say that would be so terrible that they would turn away.

IVANOVA
Yeah, well, this one's a doozy.

TALIA
Maybe. For what it's worth, Susan, I'm here for you. If you need me.

Ivanova doesn't reply. Talia waits a BEAT, then exits, leaving Evanova with her thoughts.

That's all I can find where a kiss might have occurred. The logical place would have been when Talia says she can only trust Susan but there's nothing in the script that spells it out.

It must have just been me, reading more into what happened than what did happen when I saw the episode the first time, and then expecting to see that the next time(s) I watched it.

Heh, I must be a victum of "False Acquired Memories". :o)

Here's one I don't remember us using before:

"Besides...everyone knows that the true source of pain is not the hand, or the heart...it is the mouth."

Jan
that would be G'Kar to Minister Vole in "In the Kingdom of the Blind"

Jan

Right, Laiden!

How about:

"Besides, if things get hot, you don't want to close off your only escape route out of here."

I really need to watch a little more of B5 again and maybe I could guess the right answer instead watching too much of Ds9. :)

Y'know, I was just thinking we have our own B5 quote book going on right here. I'm still hopeful that the "real" one comes out at some point.

In the meantime, here's another one for the group:

"Because then I wouldn't have been able to see this. Kind of makes the job worth doing."

Londo to G'Kar ("flittering" hands and laughing): Yoo Hoo!

Hmmm..."A Tragedy of Telepaths" when Londo and G'Kar free Na'Toth from the dungeon?

Jan,

Hmmm..."A Tragedy of Telepaths" when Londo and G'Kar free Na'Toth from the dungeon?

I guess it's possible he said, and acted like that ("flittering" hands/laughing) to G'Kar in more than one episode, but that's not the one I'm thinking of.

Yep .. good one. Londo "played" G'Kar all episode over the G'Quan Eth plant, and that was the start of it.

Have I managed to bore all of you with the fact that I've just finished putting all of my scripts into blue (for the Station) 3-ring binders with spiffy white lettered labels on the spines? The collection now takes up all but about a foot of a 5-shelf bookcase and it looks wonderful!

Okay, end of brag... ;) This one should be easy:

Oooo...now THAT's a good one. Ummm...that's the Brakiri guy (I assume he was the Brakiri ambassador to B5) informing Delenn about the open rally to protest Delenn's plan to attack Z'ha'dum in "The Summoning", I believe.

While we're waiting for a new quote, I was wondering...

Are we going to want to change the game at all when the script books start coming out? Maybe not allow quotes from the latest book or two to keep things even for the people not interested in the books or not able to get them right away?

Thoughts? Ideas?

Another quote?

That's is a question for thought. As it is when someone mentions a quote we not only give the episode but who said it. Mind you with us coming up to the 100 th page do we really want to change anything except to start another thread say "Name this Scripted quote" :D ;)

JanI'm pretty sure that one instance is Valen to the miscellaneus Minbari at the end of "War Without End Part 2" I can't think of another one for the life of me, although I keep thinking of Sinclair saying it to someone. Of course, that may just be because Valen is Sinclair, but somehow I hear it coming out of the fully human Sinclair in addition to the transformed Sinclair/Valen. Or, I could be wrong on both! :D

Oh, dear...this is embarrasing. I really apologize... I screwed up. Remember I was looking for two instances of '...much work ahead of us."? WorkerCaste got the one, Valen to the Minbari on Babylon 4.
:o
The second one, which nobody got, was in 'A Late Delivery from Avalon'. Nobody got it because it *never showed up on screen*. It was in the script but was apparently cut.
:o
It was in the Customs Area when Marcus was talking to Arthur. Franklin tells the guards that he and Marcus would handle things. In the script, it goes:

ARTHUR
Who is this?

MARCUS
A doctor. Stephen Franklin

ARTHUR
I'm in no need of a doctor. Take your leeches elsewhere. I'm just...a little late that's all. Now, I would meet with whoever is in charge of this place. There is much work ahead of us.

I could *hear* Michael York saying it in my mind. Trouble was, it was only in my mind, not on the final episode. It was cut right after "...a little late, that's all."

:o Sorry!

how common is that? How often there are extra bits and pieces of dialogue in scripts - every other script? couple of scripts in a season?

Jan
10-30-2005, 02:12 PM
Things like that, pretty common. A sentence here, an exchange there...I wouldn't be surprised if it happened at least once per script. Believe it or not, I've never finished reading-while-watching every episode.

The editing on the show was really amazing, let me tell you. I've found times where half a sentence was cut and I'd never have known if I didn't see it in black and white. Less frequent were when entire scenes were cut. The interesting thing is, though, that what got snipped could change the entire 'feel' of a scene, often making it more intense.

Sheridan to Ivanova in "A Day in the Strife", talking about how now that's he saved the station.... again, he now has to reopen the shouting match known as the Transport Association Meeting. :)

It seems to me that I've heard that quote from another character. I believe it was also Garabaldi's reaction phrase Sheridan sat on his comlink, blowing his cover to the mad bomber in some episode I can't remember the name of.

Oh and by the way : "BUMP"! :)
