View Full Version : "Pleasure Thresholds" - What do you want?
As noted in the other thread, the volumes that I and Smile of the Shadow got at Comic-Con are in-progress, not the final product. Patricia Tallman is working hard to make the final book even better and she's asked me to ask you folks what you'd like to see as content in the finished.
What are the stories you'd like for her to tell? Post your thoughts here and they'll be passed along.

I don't have mine yet, so they may already be in there, but ... I want to hear her version of The Calls - first "Sorry, you were great in the pilot, but we're going with a blond who can't act." and then "Oops, would you mind coming back? The blond's leaving."

Here's the list of questions I had sent to Tim and Summer as ideas to ask her when she was on the Babylon Podcast and when she returns:
1. How were you cast as Lyta?
2. How much of Lyta's story did you know during the filming of The Gathering?
3. Why was Lyta dropped from the series after The Gathering?
4. How were you asked to come back for Divided Loyalties? Were you
asked to return as a one-shot appearance or as a recurring character
at the time?
5. Do you know why it took so long after Divided Loyalties for Lyta to
be a regular character again?
6. How much of Lyta's story were you told at the time of Divided
Loyalties? How much later in the series? How much did Lyta's story
change during the run of Babylon 5?
7. Were you told any of Lyta's post-B5 story?
8. Why didn't you appear in the flashback story in Crusade?
9. Did you watch either Babylon 5 or Crusade?
10. How much of an ordeal was it wearing those contact lenses?
11. How many of your own stunts did you do on B5?
12. Did you do anyone else's stunts on B5?

You'll be happy to know a lot of those answers are in at least the version I read.

Anybody else? Surely there's something you'd like to ask if you saw Pat at a convention? Seriously, she's asking for your input in order to make her book better.

I want an 8x10 of the picture from page 234, in full color. In less than 24 hours, it has become my favorite B5 image to date. THAT should be on the cover.

JanJust a few more questions - some related to what I've already posted:
How was it to return to the show? Were there many crew members around from the Gathering that it was good to see again?
(Not knowing how amicable things are with Jeffrey now and whether she would to discuss anything about him at the time.) How did your relationship with Jeffrey Willerth begin?
In the initial UK broadcast of Walkabout, as well as the first-run US broadcast, your first name was misspelled "Patrica" in the opening credits. Did you know of this at the time? Did you get any "revenge" for the mistake?
How was it working closely with Mira and Claudia in Hour of the Wolf - as the three women going out in search of Sheridan? Was it an interesting acting dynamic?
How was it wearing the gills prosthetics?
Did you watch your episodes at the time? Since then? Other B5 episodes?
What aspects about the B5 rules of telepaths were you told?
How was the acting dynamic between you and Andreas? And Walter? And Robin? And Jeff Conaway?

That was something I noticed in reading the early version ... I only saw Jeff's name listed once, and it was a sort of throwaway line. It may be something she doesn't want to talk about.

Jeffrey's omission was glaring to me. I can understand not focusing on it, but I wish a little more was included.
I'm not looking for an expose either, but I'd love to hear Pat's thoughts on more of the actors, even a paragraph blurb would be nice.
I'd also love more of a discussion of the differences between B5 and Star Trek from Pat, as well as her take on the B5 vs DS9 controversy.
It may be something she doesn't want to talk about.
I thing the photo caption of Lyta and Kosh Vader probably tells us what she wants to say.
Jan
I know this is the bleedin' obvious coming from me, but: how about "As many stories about Andreas as you'd like to tell" and "As many photos of Andreas as you're willing to include"?
Without knowing what is focused on in the book I have a general request of as many behind the scenes pictures and anecdotes as possible. How many times a day did planes overhead ruin takes :) Who blew the most lines or who had the worst time with a scene that you saw.
Stories and feelings about working with the different actors, memorable guest actors, favorite person to share a scene with, who did you wish you had worked with more. How much of yourself did you put into Lyta, how much of you did JMS write into Lyta. Your take on the professionalism and/or camaraderie of cast and crew on that set vs other sets you've been on. And a full accounting of 'Lyta's Lingerie'.
I love the interpersonal stuff but also like the technical things such as acting method, how much time was spent in walktroughs, typical set schedule, different director styles, how much do you bribe the lighting guys, etc.
Welcome, wppt! Thanks for the input.
I'm happy to be able to assure you that the saga of "Lyta's Lingerie" is covered (so to speak ;)) in its entirety.

wppt,
Glad you brought up the technical aspect of acting. Pat and I were just discussing that as something to flesh out in the book. Glad to know folks are interested.

Hi everybody, first post here. As a matter of fact I fell in love with a photo of Patricia Tallman from the "Night of the Living Dead" remake when I was younger. That's foolish of me, but a true story. :)
- What I would ask from her is this : did she have to face this kind of unrequited attention from fans? (hope not!)
- Did she bring her son to the set after he was a baby, and does he have any memory of it? Did he see her work on the show, and what did he think of it? Does he express any will to follow her steps?
- Since she basically inherited Ivanova's subplot in season 5, did she know what part would have played Lyta originally in the Byron telepath crisis?
- Was she able to stay in touch with fellow crewmembers after the show, or is it hard due to the nature of the business?
- Sorry if I can't name the episode, but Lyta had a extremely violent verbal confrontation with Sheridan in one of them (Epiphanies perhaps?). Does she have any memory of that scene which struck me as very powerful (well, she just looked terrified seeing Sheridan's reaction).
Seeing her work in Babylon 5 was (is still) a blast, I will gladly buy and read her book. Huge fan :).
Welcome aboard, Pascalahad! Thanks for jumping in.

Thanks ! I've been a lurker on the website (since I'm hungry for any information B5-wise), but it's only today I saw there was a discussion board!

A few items I was hoping she could bring up in her book were:
1) How did she transition between stunt work to dramatic acting, was the stunt work a transition job to becoming an actress?
2) What was her reaction to Doug Netter's executive tour during the filming of Secrets of the Soul. JMS said he had some strong words with Mr. Netter about the tour
3) If she could share some memories of some of the departed cast members such as Johnny Sekka, Andreas, Richard Biggs and Jeff Conaway
4) If I remember correctly Pat did a great deal of charity work with Penny Lane (?), if she could elaborate on her involvement (past or present) with her charitable work and how her work on B5 impacted her ability to raise awareness for these charities
5) The B5 Magazine had an article written by Pat about filming a B5 episode. Could she have that article reprinted in the book (I'm not sure if there are any copyright issues involved in this).
On a side note (as I haven't posted in a long time), thank you so much to the B5/Crusade Script Team. Jacyln, Jason and Jan and everyone else involved you've all done a great job with the various different books series! Hopefully, a few more of these interesting projects (e.g. Joe Nazzaro's interviews from Crusade, Other Voices , the Chronology and Pat's Book) will continue to come out.
