Comics Continuum posted a report of JMS' speech in Philly. It talks about Star Trek, what's on tap for B5, comics, and a small screen venture with Marvel. Enjoy :D

Judging from this article...I would say that a Marvel Universe series is most likely the series JMS was referring to working on, not the SW series. :(

Sad...it would've been a match made in heaven!

Actually, somebody specifically asked if he had anything to do with the new SW series and he said he didn't.

Sorry, I thought that'd been covered in one of the articles. I'm working on the transcript but it's slow.

So, any ideas?? All of Marvel's best properties are currently licensed for film.

I'm thinking a SHEILD series, although a Nick Fury movie is in the works, so that could be off. JMS did have a Global Frequency series in the works, so it could be similar.

Thor is the only one I can think of that is free, and has potential. There is also rumors of a Young Blade series, it could be that...

Personally I was thinking something along the lines of a young group of mutants show, like young x-men or the Runaways. I mean they did try to do a young x-men show a while back, which never got picked up because the pilot wasn't the greatest, but now could be the perfect time for something like that. What network exec wouldn't salivate over the OC with superpowers???

JMS also is writing Dream Police for Marvel, and they could've been very pleased with it and decided to take a chance.

(EDIT: BTW, for those who didn't know about that young x-men show, it was called Generation X (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0116401/) )

Thing is, Dream Police is a one-shot that only came out yesterday. I can see Marvel being pleased but not enough to explore a TV series quite a long time before the issue came out.

I've finished transcribing that part of the JMS Q&A which isn't much different than what appeared in Newsarama. I'll post it later on in case y'all can see any clues.

As promised, here's the transcription of the part of the JMS Q&A at WW Philadelphia pertaining to the TV project he's working on:

Q: Speaking of TV, you’d mentioned once before that you were dealing with a show for 2006. Any word on that?

JMS: I’m developing a show currently…I’m trying to decide whether I can say who’s involved with it or not…[Crowd: We won’t tell!] It’ll never be on the ‘Net! I can feel laptops firing up from here. I’ve got the coolest thing, a laptop that’s got this PC card that goes into it that is a built-in cellular phone modem for DSL. I can go online in a cab at DSL speeds. It’s so great. End of commercial.

Marvel Productions asked me to develop a show for them, a TV series, based on some of their characters. We just put out the budget together and the hope is that we can go into prep sometime in August or September. But there’s a long road between here and there. So if it doesn’t happen, don’t be disappointed but we’re working on it currently. I always try and be careful in explaining these things because LA is a town where hope can kill you and I try not to get too excited about things but it could be a lot of fun. Beyond that I really can’t say.

Maybe it's the Avengers. Or the Inhumans. Although, it could be an anthology series...

Does anybody know if and licensed characters can or can't show up on tv? Because I was thinking Avengers too, but Captian America and Iron Man have films in the works and it would be hard to do an Avengers show without them.

I imagine it has to do what rights have been gotten for what. For instance, we learned from TMOS that JMS owns the movie rights for B5 but that WB still owns anything else. I would imagine that if Marvel owns all the rights to all it's characters, it can license different books, movies, TV shows, etc.

Don't forget Hulk.

And if I'm, not mistaken, Stan Lee pretty much owns anything he created in Marvel. I've always been more of a DC fan myself, but I don't think he created all of the members of the Avengers or the concept.

How about Doctor Strange?

It's about the only decent Marvel character not tied up in a movie deal, though I could be wrong about that. It could also explain why JMS called off further writing of the comic as he would want to save the stories for the tv show.

Nah...probably not.

I just hope its not a set of lousy second or third string characters.

I think Strange was always planned as just the 6 issue mini for now. From Wizard World:

Q: I enjoyed Strange a lot but I’m a little confused about what Marvel plans to do with it. Was it just a retelling?

JMS: I think Marvel just wanted to see what was happening with Strange and they’ll figure out what to do with it from there. They aren’t sure yet themselves what to do with that.

Q: [asked if JMS would take on the title, I think]

JMS: Not at the moment, I have a full workload and can’t take on anything else right now.

Just to let anybody interested know that the transcript from the JMS Q&A session on June 4 at Wizard World Philadelphia is available now. DougO was kind enough to post them.

A Word (prettier) version is available: http://jmsnews.com/docs/JMSWizardWorld.doc

Or the txt version: http://jmsnews.com/docs/JMSWizardWorld.txt

Many thanks to Amy for the digital recording. It was a big help!

Hope you enjoy,

Thanks for that.

Out of interest, who 'channeled; the question from JMS news, was it you Jan?

Thanks for that.

Out of interest, who 'channeled; the question from JMS news, was it you Jan?

Yes, that was me. Mdnowitz (sp?) had asked the question shortly before the con and I promised to pass it along. I wrote the question down as asked but I don't think that JMS read the entire thing. Might have been my handwriting, of course...

Thanks Jan I really enjoyed reading that. Would love to be able to go to a convention one of these days. Then I could meet everyone.

Thanks again.

You're welcome, Joan (and Darth Librarian). I enjoy doing it.

And meeting the people from online is a lot of fun--even one's you don't expect to. An interesting thing that happened at WW was that several people came over to the group of us from the moderated newsgroup and asked if we were (Jan, Amy, etc.). Turns out that they were lurkers and had checked out the photos that Amy had posted from the Hawthorne con. Nice folks.

I'll be going to the Comic Book / Sci Fi Expo in Toronto in August. Is anyone else going to be there?
