This Thor's Day is indeed one to celebrate. Praise Thor! Thank his mighty hammer for he has saved us from the Shadows!

Well well well..
We'll see what in the end NASA and New Horizons team decide in Jan 2018.

Perhaps they love "Peanut" much more.

NASA (New Horizons team) finally did choose the "official" nickname for "2014 MU69".
It's the sixth in order of the public voting: "Ultima Thule".

So not "Thor's Hammer Mjoelnir" nor "ZHa'Dum" got it, which were first and second in order.

But I must state that this public ballot was a JMS voting in the first place.
Mr. Straczynski, You could be proud of.

If it makes you feel any better, Ultima Thule was the name of a planet in the Space: 1999 episode "Death's Other Dominion".

Silly decision!
If the next deep space probe encounters a new far more distant Kuiper Belt body, would they name it "New Ultima Thule Subject"?
That would be "NUTS"?

I"m not sure I've ever seen that show. I guess it's okay that they still chose a geeky name. But no, doesn't really make me feel any better. (shakes head)
