Listing all of the child characters on B5

Hi! *waves in a friendly manner*

I wanted to make a new post about B5 because I still do love the show a lot. I know there hasn't been anything new in a long time, and that fans can only say the same things over and over and over for so long before it starts getting boring, but I thought I would try starting something. I know there is still a little bit of fan interaction here.

My topic of choice is child characters on the show. I just thought it would be fun to make a list of every child character that they have had on the show, and if I missed any maybe someone can add to the list.

There was Alisa Beldon in Legacies:S1 (Grace Una). Does anyone know how old Grace was at the time? I believe the character was supposed to be around 12 or 13? Since she was a latent telepath. I would have liked to have seen her character come back, I was interested in her story.

Then there was the sick alien boy, Shon in Believers:S1 (Jonathan Charles Kaplan). Going by his IMDb he was around 14 at the time. That was such a sad story, but I think I feel better about it now than I used to.

In season 2 in Confessions and Lamentations there is the Markab girl (Bluejean Ashley Seacrist) whom Delenn helps reunite with her family. Another really sad and horrifying episode, but really good too.

In season 3, in either Grey 17 is Missing or, The rock cried out, no hiding place. There was the little girl tourist who was with her mom and dad as they were touring down below, the little girl is playing with her ball and Stephen, still on walkabout picks it up and gives it back to her.

I have no idea who the child was, does anyone know? She was awfully cute.

And then in season 5, of course there was, I think his name was Simon, (Timothy Eyester) the other telepath child character, who was mute and part of the telepath cult. I've always though he looked a bit like Leonardo Di Caprio during his days on Growing Pains.

I think he was supposed to be a teen character, at least. Maybe around 14 or 15?

Those are all the ones from the actual show that I can think of right now.

In the movie In the beginning there were the Centauri children Luc Duradi (Jacob Chase) and his sister, Lyssa Dursadi (Erica Mer) the children Londo was telling the story too. According to IMDb she was around 10 and Jacob was around 8, although the impression that I got from reading the book was that he was supposed to be older than she was . Interesting factoid for me to learn was that Erica was also in a Trek Voyager episode.

Of course lots of B5 actors were also in Trek. As I'm sure everyone on here knows already.

I was quite a bit disappointed that we never got to meet young David Sheridan on screen since we do meet him in the third Centauri trilogy book. And then in the Telepath trilogy there were lots of kids, including young Bester *awe* and Garibaldi's daughter. Plus there was the little girl alien who gets killed because of Galen in the technomage trilogy.

I don't remember any kids in Crusade, but I have only watched that series once.

It's been ages since I read them but IIRC, Alisa Belden did reappear in the B5 short story by Fiona Avery, "True Seeker". KoshN would be able to verify that, I'm sure.

I think the closest thing to a child in Crusade was the young lady who was the daughter of the bartender in "The Long Road". She could have been anything from 13 on up though in real life it looks like she was about 20 at the time the episode was filmed.

No sweet robots, no Trek-like-children, a nice rule that avoided many annoying clichés on Babylon 5 (except for Prince "Anakin" Vintari in TLT...).

Seriously, children didn't play a very big role in the story. When I think about it, the only child characters/actors I really remember from B5 would be the two Centauri of "In the Beginning" - and they were quite likable.

And, of course, we got to meet Garibaldi's daughter in 'Sleeping in Light' ... but I am not sure she should be described as a kid in that. Likewise the young telepath in season 5. Depends where you draw the line at what constitutes a kid I suppose.

That's in "Shadow Dancing." (coincidentally I just watched that episode last night because it's where I am in currently rewatching the entire series).

In Joe's notecards in the Artifacts book there were plans in season five to show him - but as an adult from the future speaking out against Sheridan.

A friend reminded me of a couple more older children...young enough that they should be allowed to dance, anyway - Aria and Kiron in "The War Prayer".

I don't think Simon was meant to be an adolescent. The actor was 20 and I don't see much in the dialogue to indicate that we're supposed to think the character is much younger than that.

I rather liked Vintari. Not sure if I'd count him as a child. Poor sod.

I looked that one up last night for some reason and the script described Simon as about 16 but advised casting 18 (possibly for union/child labor rules?).

I forgot about those two! They reminded me of Romeo and Juliet. I liked that episode since it showed the softer/sentimental side of Londo that he liked to hide. And Aria and Kiron were really cute together.

That's good to know about Simon. I wasn't really sure. And oooh I'll have to try searching out that B5 short story now.

In "In the Beginning" there are the two children that Emperor Londo tells the story to.
