I saw this picture on twitter: https://twitter.com/fame_isawara/sta...263872/photo/1 seems like Doona's stand-in was used in a take Can't say I noticed it while watching, so its length must have been blink-and-you'll-miss-it!

Which made me search my bookmarks for Doona stuff: https://www.soompi.com/2017/05/30/ba...pcoming-drama/

On how Sense8 will help her with her new Korean TV series:

Quote:
During the press conference, Bae Doona shared how her role as a kickboxer in Netflix-produced drama “Sense8” helped her new role.

She said she had a lot of fighting scenes given her role, and explained, “I think my body remembers [how to move] since I received training for around seven to eight months. It’s easier to utilize my body than before. There aren’t many action scenes in this drama, but I believe it was easier when I had to chase down and fight while catching a suspect.”
Well, any way that it might help her stay fit until the special is great! It's always funny to see a break in the continuity between seasons when I'm watching series. Hairstyles are a tiny bit different, people have gotten fatter, thinner... Some times you can do a time jump weeks/months later, so it's "natural", others, the story continues directly where the previous season ended. And I think that might be how the special will play out. Doona built her body very impressively for season 2, which is why I think Lana had her show it off every other episode lol, and for the shorter shoot of the special, I don't think she will do it again, or even have the time to do it. So any way that can help her stay fit is great!

Since I didn't find any other recent Doona stuff in my bookmarks, here are two cool season 1-era interviews where she describes her distinct way of acting which fits like a glove to what the Wachowskis are asking from the actors: https://i-d.vice.com/en_gb/article/b...-korean-cinema

Quote:
The Wachowskis clearly like working with you but what do you like about working with them?

I like directors who are like painters. I like that they paint using me - does that make sense? I leave myself open to their direction.

Doesn't that make you feel vulnerable?

Vulnerable? No. Some actors complain about that, but personally I think the directors are the creators and actors convey what they want to say. I'm happy to be a canvas for them. They can use me as a prop so they can communicate what they want to the audience through me.
http://prestigeonline.com/hk/People/...STAR-ASCENDANT

Quote:
Why did you return to work with the Wachowskis in Jupiter Ascending and Sense8?

The Wachowskis feel like family. I call Lana “Mum”. And she even texts me saying, “When are you coming back home?” We really bonded with each other. I feel really comfortable when I act with Lana, because she knows how to open my heart and use my acting style properly. My acting style is not like other people who are method actors. They analyse and study the characters, but my style is more about gradually emptying my ego, so that the character can come into my heart. When working with directors, I'd rather be the white canvas so that they can paint, than going in there with lots of preparation and a big ego.
And from the previous interview again:

Quote:
Did you get to experience any of the cities you filmed Sense8 in?

We went to nine cities in eight countries - amazing, right? So every two weeks we moved from one to another. Actually we had a lot of free time. There were eight main characters and if we are shooting in Berlin, the German actor was the busiest because he is telling his story there. The rest of us were just sitting around so we went sightseeing.
Well, that certainly changed in season 2!

Quote:
It's slightly unfortunate that the local tour guide for each city was tied up in filming…

Yes but I tried my best in Seoul. After the shooting at 10pm, I would drive the rest of the cast around Seoul. I did my best, I was knackered! They really loved it. I was surprised that they loved the Korean sauna [a split room where you can shower with steam room, you can drink and take a bath fully clothed]. I know it sounds a little weird! Actually I have never been there myself. They went there themselves.

Some mini-quotes from some cast and crew: http://www.elperiodico.com/es/tele/2...o-tele-6014901

(Translations: )

Quote:
"It's the best job in the world," laughs Toby Onwumere, an actor who plays the character of Capheus.

The choice of the German capital for one of the characters was no accident. For years, the Wachowski sisters have seen in Berlin a source of inspiration to create their dystopic universes and 'Sense8' could not be left out. "It's a perfect location because it has a dark aura and full of graffiti that fits into the atmosphere we were looking for for the series," says Marco Giacalone, producer of locations.
Quote:
That makes the vast majority of members who are part of 'Sense8' come from the world of cinema. "It's the most complex work I've ever done in my 17-year career," says actress Doona Bae. Despite this, the fragmented television format in chapters is a new challenge for the Wachowski. "Television is perfect for Lana, because it allows her to have more time to exploit and capture what's going on in her head," adds the South Korean interpreter, known for starring in the movie 'A Girl at My Door'.

Re-Recording Mixer Tom Marks on the Sound and Music of Sense8 Season Two: http://www.avidblogs.com/re-recordin...e8-season-two/

I'll skip the overly technical stuff and jump straight to the surround audio mix and the Hallelujah recording:

Quote:
WDS: In Sense8, are the surround channels used for ambience, spatial cues, or something dependent on context?

TM: If you soloed the surrounds, you would hear many things depending on the scene: 1) music ambience from the 5.1 orchestra stems; 2) reverb from dialogue, music, backgrounds, foley, and sound effects; 3) panned sound design, backgrounds, production crowds, and sound effects.

WDS: The Sense8 Christmas special includes a comissioned recording of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah featuring Daniel Martin Moore and the Apollo Chorus of Chicago. How many microphones were used on this large choir?

TM: The choir formed a circle around the conductor, and one of the engineers, Mike Tholen, used his two Lucas mics in the middle, with X-Y mics above them. There were also two wide mics with two more in the balcony, so 8 total.

WDS: Was the choir recorded in a studio, soundstage, or a naturally reverberant space?

TM: The choir, piano, and acoustic guitar were recorded at Gottlieb Hall within the Merit School of Music in Chicago.

WDS: Did you emphasize stereo aspects of the choral mix to clear more space for the lead vocal and instruments?

TM: The lead vocal was recorded (close-miced) at Daniel Martin Moore’s studio, while the choir was recorded with the room’s natural acoustics. So most of the separation resulted from the recording.
And here is something even more technical about the tools used should you care about this type of thing: http://www.avidblogs.com/spill-plug-...ign-pro-tools/

Still haven't listened to them but I just listened to Riemelt and Desai's podcast:
https://scifitalk.com/2017/07/31/pod...d-max-riemelt/

Max says his favorite scene to film was the dancing in the Berlin club in the Christmas special. Max knows the owner of the club and is a regular of the place; he introduced them to Lana who liked it and agreed to film there!

For Max it wasn't acting, it was just celebrating for real. His uncle came by and Lana filmed it, he claims you can even see it in the episode that they have a moment. I guess he must be the guy you can see with Max in the first 6 seconds here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhpV0-n1kQo

Tina's favorite scene was the "trick" she does akin to the first season's bomb because she likes moments that are totally out of Kala's ordinary character. It could be the "bring it bitch" explosive scene, or the one in Seoul with the tank.. Well, the Seoul one in more "tricky", so I would guess that was it.

She also claims the aforementioned club scene in Berlin was the last thing they shot for the season. I guess she excludes the short 2-day shoot in the water tanks in Malta, because in that place they were technically expanding on what they had shot in Positano?

Next podcasts to listen to:
https://scifitalk.com/2017/07/02/pod...terrence-mann/
https://scifitalk.com/2017/06/02/pod...e-episode-289/

edit Listened to all of them now, LMAO Silvestre won't stop talking about Berghain and how much fun they had there

Another piece of the BTS footage surfaces up posted by the Malta Film Commission: https://www.facebook.com/MaltaFilmCo...4364962008461/

Lana, McTeigue and some of the cast talk about Malta, as they shoot the last footage of the second season.

It also confirms the speculation that that one shot of Kala shopping during the special was shot there instead of Italy/Positano.

edit Embeds the same video: https://www.timesofmalta.com/article...d-malta.655745

So I was doing some research on season 2+ writer Aleksandar "Sasha" Hemon and his relationship with the Wachowskis. I was mistaken that for the most part prior to Sense8 their relationship was just them interviewing him for their, ultimately unmade, film Cobalt Neural 9 for inspiration, and him profiling them and writing about the making of Cloud Atlas in 2012.

Turns out they had actually become really close friends at some point after their 2009 meeting. Hemon's 2013 nonfiction book "The Book of My Lives" contains a story called "The Aquarium" first published in 2011 online: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/20...3/the-aquarium in which he talks about the death of his 1 year old daughter (yeah! ).

According to interviews he wrote the story in a spare room the Wachowskis gave him in their production offices, Kinowerks. Meanwhile in another room the Wachowskis were writing a script of theirs. (Could even be Sense8.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...15-column.html

Quote:
Indeed, its concluding story, “The Aquarium,” which appeared in The New Yorker less than a year after Isabel's death, is an unsparing account of Isabel's last months and Ella's ability to cope by telling stories. It was written in the Chicago production offices of filmmakers Lana and Andy Wachowski (of “Matrix” and “Cloud Atlas” fame), close friends of Hemon's. He normally writes (longhand) in coffeehouses and at a writers studio on Broadway, but explained, “I needed a weeping room, a place to write and weep at the same time.”
http://hazlitt.net/blog/literature-w...-book-my-lives

Quote:
Hemon tells the audience he wept as he wrote it, so much so that he found he could not write it in the places he usually wrote. He has friends in Chicago, he says, filmmakers, and they had a spare office at their studio. He would go there and write, them a screenplay, he his essay on grief, “and then we would have lunch.” (Hemon did not identify the filmmakers but one suspects they are Lana and Andy Wachowski, whom he profiled last fall for the New Yorker, when the film adaptation of Cloud Atlas was about to appear.)
And in his 2015 novel "The Making of Zombie Wars" the acknowledgments section starts:

Quote:
Love and Gratitude to:
Etgar Keret (for the immortal cousin story);
Lana and Andy Wachowski (for reading and laughing when needed);
.
.
.
In other words the Wachowskis are #2 on his list!

Lastly I have seen some references to them being neighbors; I don't know if that just references the fact they live in Chicago (well Lana lives in SF, but she comes and goes, especially when she has to spend months in Kinowerks), or they are literally neighbors..

In "The Book of My Lives" in the acknowledgements he writes:

Quote:
In addition to friendship and neighborly affection, Lana and Andy Wachowski provided me with a weeping office.
Lastly Hemon first mentioned he was part of Sense8 season 2 in this September 12, 2015, interview:

https://www.dnevnik.si/1042720240/ku...-ameriski-sen-
https://izracun.dnevnik.si/1042720240

(Translation: )

Quote:
- For Hollywood, have not you written the script yet?

For Hollywood, yes, I am preparing some episodes for the second season of the Sense8 TV series produced by Netflix. The first season was directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski, of The Matrix ...

- Also your friends.

It's true, we met in Chicago and became friends.
Considering writing of the second season started in September/October (per the season's ordering happening on August 8, and the first 8 posts in this thread: http://jmsnews.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41026 ), then this points to him being a part of the Season 2 writing team from the beginning. (Not that I had any doubt, and I'm sure Mitchell also became part of it from the beginning as well).
