Dredd

Any one looking forward to the Dredd movie this year? I'm cautiously optimistic.

I love the strips, but I hated the first movie with Stallone.

Urban looks good in the photos I've seen, and he's a much better actor than Stallone.

I remember covering the last film in London years ago, and there was this gargantuan trailer the size of Cleveland. It was Stallone's of course, and everybody used to make fun of it behind his back. And if you looked at the crew list, there was virtually an entire page devoted to Sly's entourage- driver, security guards, dietician, etc- which didn't go over to well with the British crew either!

That's funny. I wouldn't think anyone would really care for it, but with Hollywood mentality it was a Stallone movie first and only and if it meant anything to someone for another reason, who cares.

Kind of like how most of us would like more B5 but WB doesn't care, either.

I hope this isn't offensive to anyone, but I think my best discription of that past movie was if a dog swallowed a necklace and your picking through the waste for the gems. The movie as a whole was a turd, but the ABC warrior was cool, for a second, and some of the city scape was well done, but the whole thing was still just terrible. I hate when someone equates that to the Judge Dredd character rather than the progs, but I guess he isn't "mainstream" enough. Ugh.

I still dream of a recut / CGI altering of Judge Dredd, where they hide Stallone's face for the whole movie, by CGing the Dredd uniform on him whenever possible, or hide his face in shadows whenever not, where they cut nearly all of Rob Schneider's quips, where they put back in the "destroying clone" scene, and where they create a new scene where Dredd himself confronts and destroys the ABC warrior. Oh, and no kiss in the end, and take that awful smile out of Dredd's face in the end. I can only dream.

As for the new movie, the trailer looks better than the photos, we'll see, it could be fun. But there's no trace of the dark satirical humor of the comics in this trailer. I hope it's there.

I met her earlier this month at Milton Kynes and she was lovely. Tiny, but lovey.

Lena Headey at COLLECTORMANIA June 2012.

At the LONDON FILM & COMIC CONVENTION next month, Karl Urban (Dredd himself) wil be attending.

DragonCon isn't much of one for the studios to come to. That would be Comic-Con.

And Happy Birthday!

The screenplay is by Alex Garland, author of my all-time favourite science fiction movie (Sunshine) and writer of a book I really loved (The Beach), so there is hope.

We petition the Obama administration to:

Establish new legal system of motorcycle riding "Judges" who serve as police, judge, jury, and executioner all in one.
