Ten Grand - TV Series??

Found this in JMS' introduction for SDCC. I'm going to assume that it's a TV series for now as it's not showing on IMDb as yet.

He has a Rising Stars movie in development with MGM, is writing a Midnight Nation pilot for Universal with Gale Ann Hurd attached, and is developing Ten Grand for A&E.

I have to say I am a little surprised by this news because I got the impression the delays really hurt the popularity of this series. I am not really one who follows the flow of the comic book world so I don't know if that statement is true, but I know it sure seemed like the delays were a pain in the butt for this guy and I wasn't looking at the series nearly as critically as most comic fans likely would. However, it is kind of popular subject matter right now that can be done relatively inexpensively so I can see why that would be appealing to a network executive. I certainly hope it happens.

Not massively popular (at least not in the UK comics stores I frequent), nor was it that critically acclaimed unfortunately. I don't think the artist change half way through did it any favours either. A lot of people would have bought it because Templesmith was on pencils. I haven't read it in full myself, it didn't really grab me. I'm pretty picky about my comics buying now and only keep on titles that really blow me away.

Although, none of that means that it won't make for a good TV series. There are plenty of successful ventures based on little known properties, most of these aren't even touted as 'comic book adaptations'. The way Ten Grand was structured, you could easily make it a procedural type show with a supernatural twist.

I don't think that delays or perceived popularity are really major factors when it comes to an adaptation like this. While it's purely a perception with no real facts to back it up, I get the impression that, while lots of people like comic-based TV and movies, they still often look down on the medium of comics themselves. Go figure.

I really hope that whatever TV series comes from this is able to keep the feel and subtlety that Templesmith brought to the art. While I got used to the replacement artist, I often found it a bit jarring.

As for the story - I'd very much like to see it onscreen. Let's hope that 'in development' really develops!

I agree 100%. I can't wait until we have to start adding Forums to discuss projects that make it as far as Sense 8.
