Question Would you want to See Babylon 5 done by someone else?

So the recent posting by sense8ional that a Matrix relaunch is coming with or without the Wachowskis got me thinking, would I want to see Babylon 5 done by someone else? My immediate answer is not as long as there is breath in J. Michael Straczynski's body, but I wonder if everyone feels this way? I could do this as a straight up Yes/No answer, but I am going to give you options of people who have done other successful Science Fiction Television Series and you pick your choices. These options are a little ridiculous because we all know that unless one of them approaches WB with away to bring B5 back to life as cheaply as possible it would never happen.

Please feel free to discuss your choices and mention if you have OTHER choices and what they are as well.

And please feel free to mark other then post your answer as "NO!" lol

Other: No way!

Now, that said, I might well enjoy a spin-off or related series by Joss Whedon if he swore to stop killing people for shock value. And I might not mind seeing what Robert Hewitt Wolfe might do. Both can do serious with a side of snark really well and I like that.

Other: I'm not even convinced I'd want to see it remade, but without JMS it's a non-starter. It was his vision. If someone else has a vision, they should direct it to their own, unique work. If they tried to do B5, it seems most likely that it would not be B5. There is so much that drew me to B5 that was directly from JMS.

Other: No F'ing way. It's Joe's vision and I can't see anyone else capturing that.

If anyone else were to do it, it would be a parody at worst an homage at best.

Okay people seriously, 5 votes?!?!?!?! I know there are some of you who just read what is posted, but you can still vote if you are signed in. I know the poll question is an awkward one, but you can mark OTHER for no if you like.

We did see it by someone else - DS9! *runs away*

How about have the Wachowskis do it? (I put that on 'other')

I'd have an animated series of B5 produced by Genndy Tartakovsky, with Joe as creative consultant.

That or an anime produced by the same team as Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ! ! ! ! Awesome. And I would love to see the Wachowski's on board for the reboot with JMS. I think that is my main opinion. There are other people I wouldn't mind having involved . . . as long as they were involved with JMS.

Yeah, I think I talked about the concept of the Ws being involved with a B5 reboot some time ago. Sense8 definitely exceeded my expectation of what their work for TV would look like. It's by no means perfect, but still solid. The Ws clearly have a deep love for Sci-fi even if they do sometimes end up making terrible pastiche nonsense (Jupiter Ascending). On balance, I wouldn't be dead set against it.

Which I'm glad for since I loved 'Jupiter Ascending' and thought it was brilliant.

Each to their own! I'm glad there are people out there that love it! I've already outlined my dislike for it at great length over in the Jupiter Ascending thread, so won't retread that here.

I have to admit that I don't love Jupiter Ascending, but I do enjoy it. I have to say I feel like something got lost in the movie. I don't know if the story was so epic it needed to be a longer film or what the deal is. I just know that it seems like there are bits here and there that could have been explained better or put together better. Visually it knocked my socks off. The acting was pretty good and I feel like the base line plot is excellent, but I also feel like there is just a little something missing or getting lost in translation.

Really? It was over-long as it was, I was ready for someone to put me out of my misery well before it ended. Even well before it ended I was painfully bored. If you can't tell a good story in 127 minutes, then questions need to be asked about the script! The plot was paper thin and far from clever, essentially a re-hash of the Matrix, (feeding on others to extend life / live) and not a very good one at that.

Visuals were lovely, but CGI and fancy costumes does not a good film make. And even that, by far the film's best feature... was borrowed liberally from Jean Giraud (Moebius) and Euro SF comics, The whole visual aesthetic was swiped wholesale. I was secretly hoping we'd get a fun swashbuckling film like The Fifth Element, which also draws heavily from the same sources, but at least credits then by using Giraud. Plus, the Fifth Element was overblown and FUN to watch!

Sorry, I just can't condone a film this poorly structured, lazily plotted, with vapid characters and pacing that would put a tortoise to sleep.

I love plenty of SF B-Movies, and films that are so over the top that they lapse into 'so bad it's good' territory, but this... this was just painful.

It was hot garbage IMHO. It deserved to flop as badly as it did. I hope the Ws have a long hard think before they make another SF blockbuster type film. Thankfully, I doubt anyone will be giving them $176,000,000 to play with again any time soon.

Sorry, I am being very ranty. Nothing personal, I just really hated the film. A colossal waste of money and a chance to do good original SF. I just thought it failed on so many levels. That might just be me though. But yeah, I mean love SF, and I frequently lower my standards just because it's SF on TV or film, I give things a lot of rope because of them being within this genre. Sometimes I think we accept less than we should as SF fans. This is one such example.
