Maybe he means that we will get word on the new B5 project from WB soon, and it will be in may?

Maybe 'wrong side of river' means Europe (remember Winchester Films UK rumour couple of months ago)

Although May seems fine, i would have prefered April (or even March )

I wouldn't be suprised if the project was made over here in England, or even Germany. Europe has done some good Sci-fi in the past - Look at Dr Who and Blakes Seven.

However is it easier or cheaper to film in europe at the moment? ( actually it may be - think eastern block )

JMS is used to working within budget - think of the possibilities of filming in countries where the production costs are a fraction of the costs in the United States.

The Warner Brothers thing - is it too obvious?

May - well I suppose we will have to keep em peeled folks

Just read the rumours regarding ''Winchester Films''.

I don't know about you, but this now makes a lot of sense.

Europe has an awful lot of monuments and buildings which would be right at home on Centauri Prime!

Lets hope so.....

It's JMS doing his 'VORLON' thing which makes these forums so worth while.

*I* would have prefered the middle of January!!! That was the time frame jms gave in December when he first hinted at the project!! GRRR!

I wonder if the Trekk-ies/-ers/-oids go thru this with their franchise?

They have Priceline commercials to tide them over.

I suspect "the river" is the Hudson, the "wrong side" is California (everything west of the Hudson sortta blends into a single undifferentiated mass to those of us fortunate enough to have been raised on the right side of the river. Which also happens to be where the comic book biz is headquartered, and JMS had comics on the brain when he wrote this.)

Nobody has ever referred to the Atlantic ocean as "the river". The "Big Pond" or "The Pond", yes. "The River"? Never. And I don't believe the Winchester films rumor, either.

I also suspect that JMS was trying to suggest the style of Nostradamus rather than the Vorlons in writing this particular clue.

Regards,

Joe

I don't think there's much chance of anything happening in the UK right now, at least where budget is a major consideration. As our British friends will probably attest, not only has the currency exchange situation worsened (good for Brits going on holiday in the States, not so good for US films shooting there), but a major tax loophole was recently closed, resulting in a number of big projects shutting down altogether. I'm not sure how it's affected some of the ongoing projects, such as Batman or Hitch-Hiker's, but there's probably had to be some belt-tightening all around. I notice even the upcoming Doctor Who revival is being produced and apparently shot in South Wales, where the costs are proportionately cheaper than London. Let's hope that things start to improve soon, or a lot of good people are going to be out of work.

All of this is apropos of nothing of course, as I should think the chances of any B5-related project leaving North America are slim to none. My money is on Vancouver once again, especially since JMS seems to have had some success with Rangers and Jeremiah up there, at least as far as getting more bang for his production buck.

In any event the question of where "the wrong side of the river" is has nothing to do with where the project will ultimately be shot and everything to do with where the official announcement will take place.

Any major feature film is likely to shoot on several different locations (perhaps several different continents) as well as in a studio for interiors. It is extremely unlikely that Warner Bros. has even made those decisions (since the script is still being revised and they seem to still be negotiating things for the project), much less that they will feel compelled to make the announcement from some location or other associated with the production rather than issue a press relase and/or hold a press conference from and in Burbank.

Regards,

Joe
