Crusade

Does anyone think there is a chance that JMS will complete the Crusade story in book form since there is virtually no chance of a tv revival?

I think he will resolve the issues he wanted to raise through other means. I don't see him re-raising the specific characters in a book or elsewhere except as guest spots.

We never even got to the start of the Crusade story in the TV show, so there are few hanging threads there that are specific to Crusade.

Probably not. As I recall, the question was asked last year at Heroe's Con in Charlotte and JMS said no, that it was conceived as a TV show and he didn't plan on doing as a novel or novels.

I think our best hope is to get some crusade stories via the dvds

I don't know but I would think that whole Earth dying from the Drakh plague in 5 years storyline is a huge hanging thread. I hope that at some point, now that he is making B5 movies staight to DVD, he will complete at least that part of the story.

Not really. At least, not if you've seen Sleeping in Light. I mean, we *know* they found a cure. We just don't know how or exactly when.

And we don't know if Dureena's people on Theta 49 (Patterns of the Soul) were saved, though it would be within the allowable timeframe (1 year from Patterns of the Soul and the cure being found in mid-Season 2.

Back when we were trying to save Crusade it bothered me to no end that some folks would say "What does it matter? we know that it is solved. Earth survives". As Jan states, it's not what happens it is how it happens. That is where the story is. Of course Earth survives...but how? Did anybody really think that Sheridan would die at Z'ha'Dum? The story is how does he survive?

The story of Crusade would have been great. I can guess this based upon the source of the writing. Perhaps Crusade will return. I though Babylon 5 was deader than Jimmy Hoffa 14 months ago. One never knows...

Additionally I never thought we'd see, what I consider to be Crusade's best character, Galen again...and look. So we shall see what we shall see.

The point with Crusade is that the story wasn't actually about the plague, so it doesn't matter that we knew a cure was found. The plague was only a means to get into the main story. Granted we didn't really know that at the time it was cancelled, but anyone who saw B5 must surely have realised that there was going to be more to Crusade than originally met the eye.

I just finished watching Babylon 5 and Crusade again. You are right about most of those threads, in that we find out the answer in the final episode of B5. But I agree with the other posts and JMS. The fun and the story are in the process of getting to that answer. Crusade had so much potential and you could see some of that blooming in just those 13 episodes. It's too bad that a bunch of idiots in business suits with no vision or any idea about how to tell a story (TNT) could be so narrow minded. They destroyed what would have been another example of what good television science fiction is. There are many fairly good shows out there (Star Trek, Stargate SG1, Firefly, etc.) but none reach the quality of B5 or the 13 episodes of Crusade. JMS should have been left alone to tell the story he wanted to tell. My biggest wish is for someone with some vision and common sense to start Crusade again so it can be finished properly but, alas, in the real world that is not very likely. In light of this fact, it would be nice for JMS to finish this story in some other format (straight to DVD, books, etc.). But I know that is not likely either.

There are some people who'd hang you for lumping those two shows together. Indeed, some even actively campaigned against Crusade.

...or at the very least TNT should have allowed B5 and Crusade to go to a network that wanted it, instead of doing everything they could to make sure that Crusade stayed dead.

It's about as likely as a B5 Crusade fan hitting it BIG in the lottery.

I'm going to go into a no mans land and talk about LotR. I rewatched it the other day and while most of it is kinda pulp scifi to me but the one part where you see jms laying down the stories is where there putting the heart of the ship in place or whatever it was called. In that sence you see JMS working at this best laying down the story for the years to come and while it never happened part of me love the charcter of the telepath minbari(forget his name). The other thing that LotR left me wanting more of was the heal minbari there is something about the quites ones that make you want to know more.

Like most of JMS writing LotR if givin time I'm sure it would have been something good. At this point B5 has more hanging stories that have come for these spin offs than I'm happy with and I would like to see some of them wraped up but maybe that just me.
