Wait a minute, there is going to be a new Mission Impossible and Top Gun movie? Yet, they can't get funding for a zombie move after Zombieland and Walking Dead? Wow.

All I can say on the subject is that the draft cost half that amount and would've been PG13 when the script last left my hands....
It'd be nice if they'd go back to JMS's draft the way Clint Eastwood went back to the original for "Changeling". I doubt if they will but it'd be nice.

According to deadline, WWZ is still gearing up for a June production start, and talks are on-going with the previously mentioned David Ellison and two other financiers.

Bleeding Cool:

Cinematographer for WWZ will be two time Oscar winner Robert Richardson (Shutter Island, Inglourious Basterds, Kill Bill, Casino, Natural Born Killers, Platoon, JFK, The Aviator etc.), and he is apparently already in the UK prepping.

Thanks, Vakie. Hopefully it'll be true to the book.

Looks like WWZ is starting to move ahead with casting:

Mireille Enos, the star of AMC’s The Killing, is making the leap into features, nabbing the role of Brad Pitt’s wife in World War Z, Paramount’s adaptation of Max Brooks’ globe-spanning zombie novel.

Filming Locations Being Prepped for World War Z
May 25th, 2011

Quote:
In what can only be seen as good news for those of us who are anticipating director Marc Forster's take on Max Brooks' novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, three foreign locations are being prepped for production with an eye towards a June, 2011 start date.

According to Screen Daily shooting will begin in Malta with production moving to the UK and Hungary in that order. Principal photography is expected to last well into the fall months.

More cast has been added, and..

Quote:
'World' begins production this month after a long period in which Paramount struggled with the $125 million budget. With the studio needing to fill a gap in its Summer 2012 schedule that will likely happen when "Star Trek 2" moves, WWZ is now looking like a viable alternative.
Star Trek 2 is currently slated to open on 29 June 2012, but they don't even have a script ready as far as I know and no word on when shooting would begin, so they don't really have any chance of making that date. It will likely get pushed to December 2012, or summer 2013.

WWZ would therefore be the only tentpole picture for Paramount next summer, unless they delay Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

Filming for World War Z seems to have kicked off on Wednesday in Malta.

Quote:
Along with Robert Richardson, Brad Pitt was spotted on St Dominic Street, Valletta filming a scene with two zombies, a dozen soldiers and lots of extras running and screaming all over the place.

In August they'll shoot for two weeks in Glasgow (standing in for Philadelphia), and later in Hungary.

Quote:
Michael Harm, the location manager for World War Z, said: “The production team spent many months looking for the perfect city centre location to play an important part in the film. Glasgow’s architecture, wide roads and grid layout proved the ideal setting for Marc Forster.

“Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Film Office played an important part in welcoming the production to the city centre. Production is delighted with the support they are receiving and look forward to filming in the city later this summer.”

Today they've apparently been shooting some scenes in a hospital, and there are plans for a scene where a bus blows up.

Damn, Matthew Fox and Ed Harris have dropped out of the movie. Scheduling conflict for Fox, perhaps same for Harris..

After filming for almost a month on Malta, it seems Pitt departed the island on Saturday, July 9th. So the Malta portion of the shoot is complete, and I think they're moving to UK for now. I'm guessing probably studio scenes at Elstree, and then to Glasgow.

My google alerts are full of the news that Bryan Cranston may be in the process of joining "World War Z". We B5 fans remember him as the Ranger captain 'Ericsson' in the episode 'The Long Night'.

Latest is that the release date will be Dec. 21, 2012.

http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...ember_21_2012/

If that date sounds familiar, it's also the much-discussed end of the Mayan calendar and supposedly the end of 'time'. Seems fitting!
