JMS Gets a Thor Writing Credit

Found on JMS's Facebook page:

Quote:
Good news: I was brought on to help develop the Thor movie prior to Kenneth Branagh coming on as director. I wrote a detailed outline, and pushed the story toward its final form. Didn't know if I'd get an on-screen credit in its final form, but the final WGA credits just came in and I have a story credit, along with ...Mark Protosevich, who was on before I came in.
So he's not only got a cameo, we get to see him onscreen as a writer.

ETA: A second post:

I didn't mention my writing involvement because like half a dozen other projects I've done for Hollywood over the last two years, it's been Secret. As in Shhh, don't tell anyone. The very best script I've ever written is one of those, and I can't even tell anybody about it.

JMS has so many things he can't talk about. He must feel like he wants to burst sometimes. Ah, if only Buddy could talk.

Buddy's the cat JMS rescued from the drain pipe in 2003, not the one (Mr. Kitty) that we saw a photo of in Crusade.

And, yeah...if Buddy could talk, that'd be one well bribed cat!

Why not?

Some years ago, we adopted an adult cat whose previous keepers were moving away. She had come into that family as an adult stray and lived with them for over 8 years before coming into our home ... where she lived a further 13 years with us putting her at a bare minimum of 22-23 years old when she died.

At one point I was convinced she was immortal.

That was not a good script.

I hope the best script written is a B5 movie.

I know almost certainly isn't, but false hope is all I have.

The Comic-Con footage of Thor has turned up on the web, and the trailer can't be far behind:

The scope of this looks huge. And Anthony Hopkins always gives me chills with his voice. I like the way they're tying these Marvel films together, by setting this film up in Iron Man 2, and Tony Stark gets a mention here..

I wonder what the cameo is. I was very excited to see this before, I'm a big Branagh fan, but this news definitely skyrockets this to one of my most anticipated films of '11.

There was a link to a vid in the other thread, featuring the JMS cameo scene:

(part of which appeared at the end of Iron Man 2)

That had to be a bit surreal: to write a scene for a graphic novel, and then get a writing credit when they use the scene in the movie... And get a cameo in that very scene.

JMS is having a lot of fun among the work these days.

The writing credit is because he wrote an outline for the movie.

Long on-set interview with Kevin Feige here. Highlights

Quote:
  • The script for Thor called for about 50/50, maybe 60/40 Asgard to Earth (meaning a lot of the movie doesn’t take place on Earth)
  • J. Michael Straczynski’s work is their inspiration of the Earth-bound stuff, confirms Destroyer and that he “appears in a number of key scenes throughout the movie.” Also they aren’t straying too far from the comic.
  • "But there is certainly influences of the [J. Michael] Straczynski run over the course of the film. It is, as I said, Kirby/Lee, for some aesthetic and characters, Simonson for aesthetic and characters, and Straczynski for our inspiration of the Earth-bound stuff, but not Asgard floating above."
and much more. (Colm Meaney's in it? I didn't know that ....).

EDIT: Actually that seems to be their error; it's really Colm Feore (the police chief in Changeling)
