JMS 2012 Convention Appearances

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/won...1-10-27-121500

Quote:
ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- WonderCon, part of the Comic-Con International (CCI) family of nonprofit comics conventions, today announced its first group of special guests. Sergio Aragones (cartoonist, Groo, MAD, Sergio Aragones Funnies), Matt Fraction (writer, Invincible Iron Man, Casanova, Fear Itself, Mighty Thor), Mike Mignola (writer/artist/creator, Hellboy, B.P.R.D.), and J. Michael Straczynski (writer, Superman: Earth One) are among the 11 newly announced special guests to appear at the 2012 event held in Anaheim, California, March 16-18.
Usually held in San Francisco, WonderCon will be in Anaheim for 2012 due to renovations at their usual venue.

JMS Con Appearances 2012

Asked about any cons he has lined up for 2012, JMS replied:

Wondercon, usually in the San Francisco area is going to be in Anaheim, CA this coming year due to construction at their usual venue. Being held March 16-18, 2012, there's no word when tickets will go on sale.

San Diego Comic-Con will be held a little earlier than usual this coming year, July 12-15 with Preview Night on July 11. Tickets can be hard to get with stampedes when tickets go on sale. People who pre-bought tickets for '12 at the '11 show can now get a member ID at the link. Apparently all buyers will need to get one of these as part of the process.

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available. Looks like my 2012 budget is gonna be shot.

The guest list is out for San Diego Comic-Con now and JMS is listed.

Quote:
J. Michael Straczynski
writer, Superman: Earth One

J. Michael Straczynski is a writer/producer for film, television, and comics. His latest graphic novel, Superman: Earth One, made the New York Times bestseller list for 37 weeks. Five films he's worked on were produced in the last four years: Changeling, Ninja Assassin, Thor, World War Z, and Underworld: Awakening. He's also just written a TV pilot for Will Smith's company, has sold a graphic novel/webisode series to MTV.com, and finished writing the second hardcover volume of Superman: Earth One. He has received the Hugo, Eisner, Inkpot ,and Saturn Awards, and in 2009 he was nominated for a British Academy Award.
I'm thinking that the pilot is probably the one he'd mentioned before about an epidemic.

Here's hoping that the out-of-town one is New York Comic Con.

Wow. I'd so love to manage to go there but I doubt it's likely.

The schedule and descriptions have been posted for Wondercon:

Quote:
Friday, March 16
3:30-4:30 Spotlight on J. Michael Straczynski—Normally, special guest JMS does his spotlights all by himself. This year, the event is moderated by DC editor-in-chief Dan DiDio, who will attempt to get pertinent information by asking impertinent questions about the writer, his work, and his life. We expect this to end in a Tunguska-sized crater. Room 207
Saturday is PACKED!

Quote:
Saturday, March 17
3:00-4:00 DC Comics: All Access Special Edition—Don't miss this panel about the sure-to-be most talked about project of 2012! DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio, editor Will Dennis, and writers J. Michael Straczynski and Len Wein talk about this next game-changing event. No comics fan will want to miss this! Room 204
Quote:
4:00-5:00 MTV Comics with Tom Akel and J. Michael Straczynski—MTV Comics executive editor Tom Akel and creators J. Michael Straczynski ( The Adventures of Apocalypse Al ), Karl Altstaetter ( Me2 ), Heather Kenealy ( Stan Lee's The Seekers ), and Joshua Hale Fialkov (PUNKS ) reveal and discuss art and information on their new MTV series! Room 213
Quote:
6:00-7:00 J. Michael Straczynski Writing Workshop—It's a rare event when JMS conducts one of his writing workshops, but this year we've got him. This is a Q&A about writing for comics, TV, movies, and anything else the man's done. We prefer only attendees who are actively pursuing a career in writing, and we ask those who attend to come armed with really good, salient questions about technique, the business, and so on. The workshop is only as good as the questions. This is your chance to get the inside scoop from one of the most successful writers in the biz. Room 210
Nothing so far on autograph sessions. Stay tuned!

Who else will be there besides me and Smile of the Shadow?

Jan

If I still lived in that California I would so be there. I have yet to attend a con sadly.... I am still shooting myself for not going to the Emerald City Comic Con when JMS was there a few years back.

That was a fun but under-attended con, Wyrmling. They'd scheduled it for Mother's Day weekend so attendance seemed less than it should have been. I met our illustrious Goddess of Anxiousness, Karen and her daughter that weekend which was lots of fun.

I love small cons. The best one I remember is a Doctor Who convention in Buffalo about 25 years ago, where the snow kept most people away. Instead of a panel, everybody ended up moving their chairs into a circle that included the two guests and we just hung out and chatted with them for an hour!

Illustrious? I'm blushing...

That was Mattie's first con, but I hope it's not her last. Life keeps happening, but as soon as possible we'll be going back. With the big cons you sometimes feel lost in the shuffle. You have time to really appreciate the small ones.

I hope Mattie has good memories of her first convention, Karen. She sure brought the house down with her question!

For those who weren't there, Mattie got to ask JMS the first question of his spotlight panel that day and she asked the best and worst possible question of all - "Where do you get your ideas?" After bonking his head on the table briefly, JMS did give her a good and kind answer. I thought it was a really cool moment.

She didn't understand why everyone was laughing, poor baby. I explained it to her and she was OK, though. She had a great time there. I wanted to post this real quick. I don't think we'll be able to make it this year but this was posted on FB today:

Emerald City Comicon
JULIE CAITLIN BROWN, best known for her role as Na’Toth on the hit TV series Babylon 5, will be appearing at ECCC on Friday only. Other sci-fi credits include guest starring roles on Star Trek: The Next Generation in the two-part episode Gambit, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Sliders. Mainstream television appearances include JAG, Beverly Hills 90210, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Baywatch Nights and Becker. She is equally gifted as a professional musician, having produced, written and performed on two original music CDs.

For those of you who might be able to get there.

I asked JMS via Facegook abut any autograph sessions and he posted:

Thank heaven it's not on Saturday. I avoid going to the showroom floor of any convention on Saturday if I can.

So it looks like:

FRIDAY
3:30-4:30 - Spotlight (with Dan DiDio)
5:00-6:00 - Autographing at DC booth 501

SATURDAY
3:00-4:00 - DC All Access panel
4:00-5:00 - MTV Comics
6:00-7:00 - Writing workshop

Anybody else I know going to be there?

Jan
