And we now have video!

Many thanks to Samantha for a great job filming with a camera she'd never seen before the panel.

Enjoy.

The launching of Studio JMS is great, but I'm sad there were no B5 news...

That's true, Joe should have put aside the formation of a brand new company, which would give him financial and creative independence, plus the ability to work on just about anything he wants over the coming years, in order to spend even more time and annoyance working with the very studio that never understood a potential multi-billion dollar franchise that could have rivaled Star Trek in terms of success. Yeah, I can see he made the wrong decision there.

In the video B5 was brought up but JMS did not want to divulge anything just in case something went awry. I can't say I blame him from what I hear has happened in the past.

As much as I love Babylon 5 though Studio JMS is quite the achievement and I would be happy just to see him doing what he loves to do. Assuming he has any of the rights for Babylon 5 though this now means he can do what he wants with the franchise and not be under the thumb of another company.

IIRC JMS has the right for B5 movies, and that is all. This might bode well for future B5 movies.

I totally get why JMS will not say anything too soon, having been burned before.

The studio is probably some of the bes news in quite a while.

I don’t understand the need for sarcasm there. There’s Babylon 5 fans who would like to see more from that ‘verse – in some shape or form. Hoping to see mention of something to that effect after such a build up to the big reveal, isn’t an unreasonable one.

It’s great news for jms – and possibly in the long term for fans as well, including B5 ones. Especially over time when the benefits to them become apparent when things (not necessarily B5 related) start being created and released. Hopefully.

Apologies for my kneejerk reaction, which was probably a bit harsh. It's just that in the wake of a huge announcement from JMS, wishing for more B5 felt like a glass-half-empty rather than a glass-half-full situation.

Meant to post this last night. JMS posted this link where you can see the two SDCC videos:

http://vimeo.com/user12513191

Play nicely while I'm traveling home, okay, folks? I've got the inevitable 'con-crud' so I don't want any fires to put out when I finally get home tonight.

It's been a great con!

Yeah, that announcement was very cool. I'm looking forward to those projects coming to fruition. B5 wise, I would have been perfectly content with a "we'll see what happens" or "I haven't forgotten it yet"

I think I missed it. The big anouncement is the formation of his own studio, right?

I'm sorry I'm not that excited about that, although I might come to realize my mistake later, like if it makes more B5.

That, and the number of projects already in process, both in association with other companies and self-financed.

JMS has been asked many times at various cons about getting his own production company and he's always said before that it wasn't feasible. That it is feasible now, is a major indication of how far JMS has progressed professionally.

Well that's good, I hope he does well. I didn't see anything that interested me, currently, but maybe that's my shortsightedness.
