Actually, my thought there was that that's what Gideon would *always* tell him,
because the last thing in the world he'd ever do is tell Max that he WANTED him
on board. He'd be totally insufferable.

It was discovered in episode 14, "To the Ends of the Earth," and dealt with
further in "End of the Road," the season cliffhanger, neither of which were
filmed but both were written.
